Nondiscrimination Policy
Lamplight Christian School admits students of any race, color, and national origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, and athletic or school-administered programs. The administration, however, reserves the right to dismiss or refuse admission to anyone unwilling to comply with the school’s regulations and academic or behavioral standards.
Admission Testing
All incoming students are given an entrance examination as part of the admission process. Should the student’s accomplishments (as shown by the test) be on the grade level to which the student is applying, then the student will be admitted to that grade, provided no other impediments to the student doing well at LCS exist.
Instead of an entrance examination, all kindergarten students receive a Readiness Assessment. This assessment, the family profile, student application, and reference forms are used to determine whether a child is ready for our academic kindergarten or whether they should wait a year.
Legal Requirements
Age: Nevada state law requires that a child must be at least five (5) years of age on or before September 30 to be admitted to kindergarten and six (6) years of age on or before September 30 to be admitted to first grade.
Records for first time enrollment:
• Birth Certificate: It will be necessary to present a birth certificate, baptismal certificate (with birth date), or passport upon enrollment to verify age.
• Health Records: A doctor or Health Dept. verified immunization record is required before a new student may be admitted to LCS. (See Immunizations under General Topics for the address of the Health Department)
• Child’s Social Security Number
Re-enrollment
Beginning March 15, presently enrolled students may register for the fall term on a
first-come, first-served basis.
Members of Bible-believing churches
Children of members of Bible-believing churches will be given top priority
in enrollment in Lamplight Christian School in all classes, on a space-available basis.
Others
Children of parents who are not members of local, Bible-believing churches and
children of non-Christian parents will be admitted to Lamplight Christian School
on a space-available basis in accordance with the enrollment process if the
administration determines that the child and parent’s attitudes and behavior are
consistent with the philosophy of LCS.
Statement of Cooperation
The parents of all students admitted to Lamplight Christian School will be required
to sign a “Statement of Cooperation” indicating that they understand and agree to
comply with the philosophy, mission statement, and policies of Lamplight Christian
School as stated in this handbook. All students admitted to fourth grade and above will be required to sign the same “Statement of Cooperation.”
New Students – Probation Period
All new students will be admitted to LCS on a probationary basis for a 9 week period (one quarter). This time period will allow parents and students to demonstrate their
compliance with the philosophy, mission statement, and policies of LCS. This
probationary period will also allow the faculty and the parents to evaluate the
suitability of LCS for each new student.
Enrollment Process
To enroll, obtain an application and other necessary forms from the office, and return them when completed. After all the appropriate forms and immunization record, if applicable, are returned and the registration fee paid, the admission test and interview with parents and student will be scheduled. The enrollment process is not complete and enrollment will not be confirmed until all forms are returned, fees are paid, the admission test is administered, and the interview with parents and student is completed. The admission test fee is $25.
Late Enrollment
If a student enters after the school year has begun, tuition is pro-rated according to the actual number of days enrolled.
Supplies and Books
Students in grades two through eight are to supply their own pencils and paper, with grades five through eight also bringing an 8 1/2" x 11" three-ring binder. During the summer months, the office will send a specific list of any additional items that may be needed. A backpack or book bag and a school box are recommended as useful tools for organizing and carrying these items.
There is a book-usage fee (this is listed on the next page). It is expected that they be treated with respect and that reimbursement will be made to the school for any textbooks that the student may lose or damage. Report cards will not be released until all books are accounted for or reimbursement is made.
